Cool and shady, Upcountry Maui is often a surprise to first time Maui visitors. It is a common assumption that Maui is little more than hot sandy beaches and jungle, so the pleasant freshness of Upcountry is a secret you'll be pleased to have discovered. Although the Banyan Retreat is close to the airport, Kahului, the North Shore beaches and North Coast jungles it is still far enough removed to be in a region of it's own. Stretching from Haiku through Makawao and Pukalani to Kula, Maui's Upcountry is a quieter and more temperate side of island life. The unique blend of old time Hawaii with modern schools and residences weave through the Pineapple plantations, sprawling ranches, jungles and forests that make up the landscape of Upcountry Maui. While you're staying on the island, let us introduce you to some of our Maui retreat friends who also share our high standards and who our guests have enjoyed knowing about.

The Banyan Retreat is just outside of Makawao town, less than 10 minutes from Paia and the North shore beaches. Haleakala Park is about an hour up the mountain. Haiku, Pukalani, Kula and HaliiMaile are all close by in Maui's upcountry area. Our Maui retreat has a peacefully ideal central location for touring Maui. Our large and roomy yoga studio is available for any group event, weddings, conferences, classes and meetings.
